Why Vanuatu?

A tropical archipelago of 83 islands in the South Pacific, Vanuatu has diverse, living Melanesian cultures, unspoilt natural environments and is only 3 hours or less from New Zealand and Australia, and 2 hours or less from Fiji and New Caledonia. Vanuatu’s geographical position and air connections means that Vanuatu is well-placed for inclusion in regional, multi-island Pacific itineraries.

Vanuatu is a contrast to other Pacific neighbours. Some of the unique and iconic attractions of Vanuatu include:

  • Nine active volcanoes including Yasur on Tanna which is said to be the world’s most accessible active volcano.
  • Living cultures celebrated through a range of cultural festivals such as Naghol (land diving) in Pentecost.
  • Some of the world’s best diving, including abundant marine life and the world-famous WW2 wreck, SS Coolidge.
  • The indigenous population, the Ni-Vanuatu, are known for their warm and friendly nature, and Vanuatu has twice been named the world’s happiest country!
  • Urban Vanuatu is increasingly multicultural, based on its unique French, English and Vietnamese colonial past and subsequent migration from other Pacific countries and Asia.
  • Lush tropical rainforests, beautiful beaches, and an abundance of cascades and waterfalls.

Tourism remains a small industry in Vanuatu with only around 100,000 fly-in visitors per year, meaning little to no mass tourism and widespread sustainable tourism practices.  Vanuatu also has a low crime rate and is generally considered a safe destination for tourists.

Our itineraries focus on:

  • The main island of Efate, home of the capital city, Port Vila, plus Efate’s small offshore islands such as Nguna and Pele.
  • The large lush northern island of Santo.
  • The southern volcanic island of Tanna
  • Other more remote islands where customers have the time and appetite for remote travel experiences.
